All those who visit our Art Centre are hugely impressed by the work on display - it is simply stunning.
The Art Department is housed in the Arts Centre which has been specifically designed for three specialist practical studios, namely Three-dimensional Design, Fine Art and Graphics, and Fabric Design and Printmaking.
The Department also has a room for History of Art and IT as well as a darkroom. This specialist Centre is used by all years in the Senior School and the upper years of our Junior School.
Every student has the potential for success. The aims of the department are to develop visual perception and understanding, including the creative, imaginative and practical skills for working in art, craft and design. Secondly, to develop visual literacy and an appreciation of our cultural heritage, both European and non-European through practical and critical responses to achievements in art, craft and design. Thirdly, to develop the individual's special aptitudes, strengths and interests and foster and encourage confidence, enthusiasm and a sense of achievement.
The variety, range and depth of the skills offered has helped to support and develop the department's fundamental belief in Art as a democratic subject not only available to the largest number of students but exciting and varied enough in content to give every student feelings of success and self-confidence.
A spirit of enquiry and personal discovery is encouraged through recording responses through both direct observation and through experimentation, innovation and developing personal ideas. This is coupled with a strong emphasis on process and on the acquisition and understanding of techniques and skills.
The Art Department has a long tradition of organising regular trips both in this country and abroad for over 25 years. Paris, Florence, Venice, Eastern Europe and Russia are among the many places visited. In recent years a bi-annual Tour of Renaissance Italy has been enjoyed by students from Years 10-13.
The History of Art Department also takes advantage of these trips as well as local exhibitions, lectures and support courses.

History in 100 Objects
The Art History department received lots of interesting entries for this project, and all the items submitted have been on display in the Art Department. They ranged from a Mary Quant dress to a wind up gramophone, complete with His Master's Voice dog, and a 1930 style meat mincer. Much food for thought for pupils, and cries of 'My mother had one of those!' from nostalgic members of staff.
Redland High Artists visit the Capital
Art and History of Art students enjoyed an inspiring day in London visiting the Tate Britain and Tate Modern galleries. This visit gave the students first hand experience of many renowned paintings and sculptures.
