Redland High Junior School Junior Strings Summer Concert
Yet again the girls of Redland High Junior School presented a wonderful musical concert. 22 girls played their stringed instruments to a packed Junior School Activity Hall of parents/carers and invited guests.

Folly Farm Fun for Foundation!
Foundation had a wonderful day in the beautiful sunshine at Folly Farm recently.

A free reign for young designers
Year 4 enjoyed a workshop linking design, science and  technology activities recently.

SOS – Junior School ‘Stripy Or Spotty’ Day
A big 'Well Done' to everyone who took part in the fundraising day on behalf of the RNLI raising a fantastic £247.30 towards the cost of kitting out a Lifeboat Rescue Volunteer with a jacket and helmet.

Redland High Year 4 wins Bristol Photograph Competition
During the Junior School Walk to School Week a competition was held for the most interesting photograph taken on the journey to School. The winners' photographs were then entered into a city wide competition and Ella Kipling (Year 4) has won and will be attending a special award ceremony on 5 July.

Bikeability for Years 3 and 4
Redland High Year 3 and 4 girls successfully completed their Level One Bikeability Course this week. The girls were trained by a qualified instructor, Mrs Sarah Thompson, ably assisted by two of our Year 3 Mums.

Redland High Orienteering - RHOK
The final event in the Schools' League took place at Cleeve Hill, Gloucestershire. Both Senior and Junior Teams competed producing some great results.

Redland High Athletics Winners
Well done to the girls - Juniors and Seniors - who took part in the Athletics match against Clifton High School. The Althletics Team achieved fantastic results with Redland High winning every age group.

Singing Concert
Students from Year 6 to Year 13 entertained the audience with a variety of songs from a wide range of styles including folk music, pop music and musical theatre.

Rounders Fixture v The Redmaids' School
Congratulations to all the girls who took part in the Rounders fixture against The Redmaids' School on Wednesday. Both Year 6 and Year 5 won their games, winning by at least 4 and a half rounders.

Capacity investigation fun
Year 4's mathematical and scientific investigations led to some giggles as pots of liquid overspilled!

Fire Fighters visit Lower Foundation
On Tuesday 18 May the girls in Lower Foundation were visited by Chris and Steve, two Fire Fighters from Bristol Airport Fire Department, who came to talk to the class about their brave and important jobs helping to deal with fires and emergency situations.

Year 4 Geography Trip
Year 4 recently went on a Geography trip to Folly Farm in Pensford. The activities were based on their current topic - water - and took place in the stunning 250 acre nature reserve.

Year 5 Go Greek
During their‘Greek' project Year 5 enjoyed an exciting workshop with a lady called Clio.

Junior School welcome visitors to Lower Foundation
This week the girls from Lower Foundation have been thinking about people who help us in the community and have been visited by the RNLI, a doctor and a dentist.

Redland High Juniors Orienteering Club (RHOK)
After another highly successful year for RHOK, Yvonne Bentley (Year 5) Phoebe Budd-Stone (Year 6) won their classes this year and came in 1st and 2nd at the Individual Championships beating many top class runners.

Tudor threads for Year 5
Year 5 have been studying the Tudors and decided it might be fun to start an embroidery group. The idea was that the girls would tackle Blackwork, that very iconic form of Tudor embroidery brought to England by Katherine of Aragon.

Junior School House Singing Competition
The theme was ‘Springing into Easter', and each House learned a different song. Avon sang ‘Yellow Bird', Frome sang ‘Country Garden', Severn sang ‘Coming round the Mountain' and Trym sang ‘ Easter Jubilation'.

Court Farm
Foundation Stage had a wonderful time at Court Farm at the end of the Spring Term. Gulliver, the girls much loved teddy bear travelled with them.

Earth Agents Assembly
At the end of term the Earth Agents led the Junior School in an Eco assembly. Sara Tomerak, Kristina Klein, Pippa Morgan, Amelia Nichols, Emily Phillpotts, Rebecca Harrison and Grace Hillier informed us of the wonderful suggestions we have had coming into our Eco suggestion box and which ones we have been able to do something about.

‘A Midsummer Night's Dream'
The Junior School was thrilled to welcome The Young Shakespeare Company into School at the end of term to perform a 'child-friendly' production of 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' for Years 5 and 6 followed by a workshop.

End of project VE Celebration!
Year 6 celebrated the end of their World War II project with a topical party in the style of the VE Day celebrations.

Contact and Non-Contact Sport Success!
Judo and Netball achievements have been recognised for Redland High Junior School students.

Year 6 Debate Their Uniform
Year 6 enjoyed presenting their own debates to Year 5 after their visit to a Senior School debating club event.

Year 5 Data logging
The girls of Year 5 have been enjoying using Logit Explorer temperature sensors to investigate conditions when ice changes into water.

Juniors Swimarathon
Well done to the girls who took part in the recent Swimarathon and between them swam 330 lengths in half an hour, which is a fantastic achievement.

Junior School Spring Concert
Our Spring concert was an outstanding success. Showcasing what they have been learning in their instrumental and School Music lessons, it was evident that all who took part thoroughly enjoyed performing. 

Junior School Ballet and Judo Awards
Congratulations to the Junior School girls who have received awards recently in the ballet and judo extra curricular clubs.

Amanda Mitchison visits to start Book Week activities
All the girls from Lower Foundation to Year 6 were involved in some way in celebrating Book Week/World Book Day. The girls thoroughly enjoyed all the activities and their visit from the author Amanda Mitchison (pictured).

Juniors 'Sing Up' with a Smile

The Junior School  girls, including the Choir, sang beautifully recently for ‘National Sing Up Day' -organised by a government group aiming to provide different initiatives for singing in school.

Barnardos Egg-citing Challenge!
Mr Robin Turner came to a Junior School Assembly recently to talk about the work of Barnardo's and to explain an Egg-citing fundraising challenge that Redland High pupils are taking part in.

Junior Orienteering Club Marching On!
The Year 6 girls made an almost seamless transition at Lyncombe Hill recently to the more advanced yellow course with five running alone. Phoebe Budd-Stone won the Year 6 girls' race again and extended her lead in that class.

Life Education Mobile Classroom
The Junior School recently visited the Life Education Mobile Classroom. According to age, the girls took part in workshops related to personal safety, drug education, keeping their bodies healthy, and making wise choices and decisions.

Year 5 are Animating!
Year 5 recently took part in workshops animating Aesop's fables.

Drumming the Djembe Drums!
As part of their topic work on Africa, Year 4 recently took part in an African drumming workshop.

Gulliver's Travels
As part of their Personal, Social and Emotional Development the girls in Lower Foundation have the opportunity to take Gulliver, the class Teddy Bear, home for the weekend or on holiday.

A Day in a Victorian Ragged School
Year 6 were recently set the task of writing about a day in school imagining they were living in Victorian times. This was part of their 'Victorians' topic.

Raising funds for Haiti

Thank you very much Katie Knapp and Emily and Lucy Griffin for all your hard work in organizing and running the biscuit and cake sale in aid of the Haiti Earthquake Appeal fund. A marvellous £700 was raised.

A tasty Maths lesson for Foundation!
The Upper Foundation girls walked in the snow to Redland Bakery in support of their role play and mathematical work. All girls had the opportunity to choose a cake, pay for their choice and receive change. They explored this money back in class by making wax rubbings of their change. They also enjoyed tasting their purchases at snack time!

Brownies and Rainbows Whipsnade Trip
Redland High Brownies and Rainbows are certainly a hardy bunch, and they proved that during our wonderful day at Whipsnade Zoo! Despite some pretty awful weather our Brownies and Rainbows saw some fantastic animals and had a super time.

Foundation Mayhem!
Foundation classes set off to Mayhem Soft Play at the Riverside Centre for their Christmas end of term treat. A good time was had by all. After an energetic hour on the soft play equipment, the Mayhem staff put on a lovely Christmas buffet lunch.  Girls were still buzzing about the trip as they returned after the Christmas break!

Extra Science is a Hit!
A new extra curricular Science Club run by "Glow Jo" from Mad Science begins in soon.

The Nativity is given the 'Come Alive' treatment
When the ‘Come Alive' puppet theatre company visited Redland High Junior School the girls already knew they were in for a treat because ‘Come Alive' have visited the School before and their performances are always wonderful.

Christmas Craft Day
At the end of term as part of the Christmas festivities the Junior School had a wonderful arts and crafts day and the girls produced some fabulous Christmas gifts and decorations.

Redland High Celebrate Christmas with Song
Redland High's Key Stage 2 Choir took part in a concert recently - Winter Celebration of Song - organised by the Bristol Arts and Music Service.

Year 4 Empire Building!
As part of their History topic this term the girls of Year 4 have been busy constructing Roman buildings in order to make a model of a Roman Town.

Henry VIII
Thank you very much to Dr String and Professor Bull, parents of Sasha Bull, Year 6, who kindly came into School to lead a lesson with Year 5 on King Henry VIII.

Travelling Book Fair
Redland High Juniors were thrilled to discover on totalling up the Book Fair that an amazing £1,128.54 had been spent at the book fair, giving us a fantastic £617.00 in commission.

Christingle Workshops
As part of their project on ‘Signs and Symbols' , Years 3 and 4 were visited by Mrs Rachael Swonnell, a member of the Education Team at Redland Parish Church. She spoke to the girls about Christingle, the Festival of Light.

Water Hippo Competition
Girls in Years 1 to 6 were recently asked to design a picture for a Water Hippo Competition organised by the Eco Club. Thank you to Ellie Wallace and Siobhan Clabour who did a brilliant job co-ordinating the competition.

Junior Inter-house Swimming Gala
What a brilliant afternoon we had at the swimming pool! All girls from Years 3 to 6 had the opportunity to compete in races including Backstroke, Front Crawl, Butterfly, Motor Boat Mania and a Raft Race.

Lunchtime Concert for Junior School
Years 2 - 6 recently took part in an informal concert at Redland Parish Church. It was a truly charming programme and demonstrated how hard the girls are working in their Music lessons and in extra-curricular Music clubs.

Redland High Rainbows and Brownies Ferreting About!
As part of the Centenary year the girls have decided on the themes of our meetings and having an animal night was a high priority!  Therefore Redland High Rainbows and Brownies recently played host to some exciting furry friends!

Junior School Fireworks Poster and Poem Competition
Wow, what wonderful designs and poems the girls produced for this competition! We have some very creative and talented girls at Redland High.

I Love School Jackets!
Congratulations to Ellen Chancellor, Year 2, whose poem ‘I love School Jackets' has been published in the ‘Pound a Poem' book.

Redland High Juniors Hockey Match Report
Redland High U11 Hockey teams played extremely well and with great determination. Some outstanding skills were on show against Clifton High on Wednesday 14 October, especially Alice Pullin's outstanding performance as a defender. Rebecca Lemon and Yvonne Bentley scored two goals each, giving them a 4-0 win!

Junior School Recycling Food Fun!
Mrs Helen Peake from Bristol City Council  recently visited the Junior School to lead an assembly on ‘Food Recycling'. She introduced herself as a ‘rubbish teacher', but the content of the assembly was anything but rubbish!

Year 6 Maths Challenge
A small group of Year 6 girls recently took part in a Maths Challenge against several other local independent schools. They all did really well and were excellent ambassadors for Redland High School. Well done to: Siobhan Clabour, Poppy Simmonds, Laura Donkin, Sara Tomerak, Ellie Wallace and Millie Wollas.

Redland High remembers visit by Patrick Morris
As many in the country enjoyed the first episode of the BBC Natural History animal behaviour series "LIFE",  Redland High Juniors remember the inspiring visit last November by Patrick Morris, producer of the Primates and Birds episodes.

RHOK (Redland High Orienteering Klub)
There was another fantastic turn out of Redland High Junior girls at the Avon Schools' League Orienteering event in the Forest of Dean. Once again the weather was perfect and many of us enjoyed a leisurely picnic together afterwards.

Walking and Scooting are Fun!
Week beginning October 5th saw the Junior School start its ‘Walk to School Week', in recognition of the fact October is ‘International Walk to School Month'. During the week they promoted a healthy life style as well as saving on carbon emissions. They also raised pupil (and parent!) awareness of how easy it can be to fit in some exercise during the day.

RHOK (Junior Orienteering Club)
The first event of the Avon Schools' Orienteering league took place on Sunday 12th September in beautiful sunshine at Blaise Castle. 24 Junior girls from years 4, 5 and 6 came along, many for their first event, supported by their parents.

Junior School Swimming Squad Announced!
Congratulations to the Junior School girls selected for Redland High's swmming squad who will train weekly in preparation for selection for the competition galas.

Orienteering in the Junior School
To enrich their project work about Maps and Mapping, girls from Year 5 sampled Orienteering at Ashton Court during the first week of the Autumn Term.

Junior Prize Giving
At Redland High Junior School we ensure that we continually recognise and praise the girls as they grow personally and academically throughout the year.  However, we also like to review high achievement and progress annually and these awards are presented at a special prize giving service.

The Foundation classes enjoyed a visit by an optician as part of Upper Foundation's learning about the five senses.

Enlightening time for Year 4!
At the end of the Summer Term, Year 4 participated in a Lighthouse Design and Technology Workshop as part of their Lighthouse Project Week.

Redland High Juniors at Redland Parish Church
At the end of the Summer Term, Years 1 and 2 visited Redland Parish Church as part of their Religious Education curriculum on ‘Visiting a place of worship'.

Foundation Fun at Court Farm
To celebrate a productive year, the youngest students of Redland High spent a very happy day at Court Farm near Bristol enjoying a variety of farm experiences.

Sports Day Soars!
Redland High Juniors held Sport Day at the School's own sports centre - Golden Hill - and the risk of thunder to break the heatwave held off!

Years One and Two get back to nature!
Years One and Two visited Westonbirt Arboretum at the end of term where they took part in a nature trail looking for clues of animal activity.

Year 3 visit the British Museum
At the end of the Summer Term, Year 3 left school at 8.45am on a long, hot journey to the British Museum in London.

Year 5 Make a Splash!
Year Five had a wonderful day at Ashford Water Centre to enhance their study of Rivers.

Redland High Juniors go Supersonic!
Rubber bands took the place of rocket boosters on Monday 15 June when the Year 6 girls of Redland High Junior School attempted to build their own versions of the Bloodhound supersonic car and race them across the playground!

Years 6 and 7 Water Purification Science Project
Years 6 and 7 joined together this week to reflect on the problems of obtaining pure water if you live in an African village.

Orienteering Team (RHOK)

Rainbow and Brownie Sports Day Fun
16 of Redland High Rainbows and Brownies recently entered the Bristol North West Division Annual Sports Day, which was held for the first time at our own Golden Hill playing fields.

Rounders Success v Clifton High School
Well done to all the Year 5 and 6 girls who took part in the rounders fixture at Redland High's Sports Complex - Golden Hill. All the girls put in a fantastic performance against Clifton High.

Swimming Relay Championships at Millfield
Congratulations to Redland High Juniors Elinor Rogers, Briony Blenman, Christie Thorn and Amelia Dore who competed in the Primary Schools’ Relay Championships at Millfield School on Monday evening.

The Junior School orienteering team attended the Avon Schools Individual Championships in the forest of Dean and did extremely well.

Fifty-four Redland High Juniors are taking part in Bikeability courses which are being sponsored by Bristol City Council.
