Towards the end of the term the School received visits from two old girls of very different generations.

Old Girl Directs at the Edinburgh Fringe
In something of a brilliant co-incidence Natalia Scorer, one of our old girls and former Head Girl, will be directing a play at the Edinburgh Fringe at exactly the same time as Ms McCormack will be directing Redland High's Drama group, 'Working Girls' in their production of Trojan Women.

Back to the '80s
Those who attended the recent 1980s reunion had a great time recollecting their School days and catching up on news.

The Sky's the Limit for Kylie
In February we were delighted to report that one of our Old Girls, Kylie Murray, had been awarded a Harvard Fellowship which would enable her to spend ten months at Harvard working in Celtic Languages and Literature.
However, taking up this highly prestigious Fellowship was recently jeopardised when Kylie collapsed.

Former Pupil Improves our Students' Business Skills
At the end of last term, six girls from Year 13 took part in the regional heats of a Business Skills competition run by the ICAEW (the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales) at which one of our old girls, Sally Thomas, was helping.

Sarah Enjoys her Return to School
Towards the end of last term, Sarah Curthoys, returned to School for a few days to shadow the French Department. Sarah, who is in the middle of her French and Italian course at Cardiff University was at home in between the two stages of her year abroad and decided to make the most of her time by completing some work experience.

Rave Reviews for Lyrics & Lines
If the atmosphere in the old Elizabeth Cocks Library (Room 5) was anything to go by, those attending our Lyrics and Lines event were looking forward to a good evening's entertainment and they were not disappointed!
A Level course tempts former Redlandites back
Two former Redlandites, Faye Brackstone and Kathryn Dobson, are attending the Classical Civilisation A Level course for adults, which is being taught by our Head of Classics, Sally Knights.
In February three members of the group, including Faye, made a day trip to Oxford to see a production of Euripides' play 'Medea', which they have been studying in class. They all agreed that it really helped them to understand this difficult and shocking play.
While in Oxford they also took the opportunity to examine Greek pottery, vases and sculpture in the gleaming new space of the Ashmolean Museum, and to appreciate the beauty of the English Perpendicular style as represented by the University‟s Divinity School. Altogether it was a highly enjoyable and educational trip.

Redland High Student Wins Prestigious Harvard Award
Kylie Murray, who graduated from Redland High School in 2000 to go first to St Andrews and then to Oxford where she is studying for a DPhil in Medieval Scottish Literature, has beaten tough competition to win a Frank Knox Memorial Fellowship.

AGM is an education
The Old Girls' Guild AGM on Saturday 30 January proved an enlightening experience!

To Teach or Not to Teach?
In December, former Redlandite, Caroline Leech came in to observe Lisa Jephcote's Psychology lessons with a view of applying for a PGCE to start in 2010.
Old Girls' Guild London Branch Meeting
On Saturday 21 November the London Alumni met in the church of St Mary Aldermary, in Watling Street, London,which is a fine Wren Church and a venue much loved by the historians amongst the gathering.

Old Girls pay tribute to Mr Davies
This year's Autumn Concert was particularly moving in that it was Nigel Davies' last one before his retirement as Director of Music.

Seventy years after the outbreak of World War II, one of our old girls, Jenny Allen-Williams (1952) remembers what it was to like to be evacuated.

Former chairman of the Guild, Mary Walters, has produced a photographic calendar for 2010, showing some wonderful picutures of features at the School.

Miss Stannard's legacy
Frances Stannard who was Head of Art at Redland High from 1954 until her retirement in 1980 and who died earlier this year, has left the School two of her paintings.

A Teacher of the Future!
Laura Ritchie, who left Redland High in 2004 returned for two weeks in June to gain some work experience at the Junior School.

The Old Girls' Guild lunch on Saturday 4 July was always going to be a special event, but it proved to be even more so than originally thought.

Redland High's Own Poet Laureates
Two members of the Redland High community have had recent success
in the world of poetry. The Imperial War Museum has accepted a poem by
Jenny Allen (1952 - pictured) about World War II, as part of their
collection of works from those who experienced different aspects of
wartime Britain.

Wendy Ellis picks up her art prize – over 50 years late!
Wendy Ellis (née Robinson) came to School in March to pick up
the Art prize she had won for her drawing of the School buildings 54
years ago!

Dinner with Ann Widdecombe
Parents, Old Girls, Staff and Friends were treated to a master-class
in after-dinner speaking by the Rt Hon Ann Widdecombe MP when she came
to Redland High on Sunday March 29 in support of the Appeal Committee’s
fund raising for bursaries.

Evacuation and Old Girl War Stories!
As part of their study into Life during the Second World War, the Redland High Year 6 girls really got to grips with the emotions of being evacuated.

1946-1955 Reunion Tea Party
On 18 June, the Development Office played host to just over 60 old
girls who had left the School between the years of 1946 and 1955.
