Students at Redland High School for Girls achieved almost 30% of their A2 passes (pass rate of 100%) at the new A* grade – 28.8% to be precise! Over 52% of the passes were at A* or A grades and a fantastic 80.82% were at grades A*- B.
In terms of the A* grade, Redland High School outshone all the local competitor schools (see below).
In this highly competitive year, it was especially pleasing that very nearly every one of our Redland High Year 13 students gained entry to the universities of their first choice. Four girls achieved 3A* grades.
This year, for the first time, 3 students at RHS took the Extended Project Qualification, to great effect, with two achieving A grades and one candidate gaining the coveted A*. These EPQs count as ½ an A Level and are of real interest to universities as they require in-depth study of a subject of interest to the candidate; they often relate directly to the subject candidates wish to study at university. Our students' projects were on: equine laminitis, the environmental impact of dams and the clinical applications of monoclonal antibodies. The EPQ definitely made a difference to offers being made to RHS students for very competitive courses. For 2010/2011, 20 Redland High Sixth Form students have signed up for the EPQ.

At GCSE the overall pass rate (A*-C) was 99% which is the highest pass rate since 2005. 100% of our GCSE students achieved at least 8 A*-C passes. 98.4% of the students passed at least 5A*-C GCSEs including English and Mathematics. 27.4% of Redland High School's GCSE candidates achieved all their passes at A* or A grades which is a terrific performance. Three girls passed all their GCSEs at A* grade: Amy Headley with 10 A*, Luna Li and Shirley Zhang with 12 A* each.
Mrs Caroline Bateson, Headmistress of Redland High School for Girls, said, "We are celebrating the tremendous success of our students. This year, with the new A* grade at A Level, no one was clear about what standard would ensure an A* grade. Our results, with almost 30% of all our passes achieving the A* grade, prove that the teaching here is of the very highest quality and I congratulate my staff as well as our students. In GCSEs, to have 27.4% of our Year 11s pass all their subjects at either A* or A grade is wonderful. All our GCSE candidates acquitted themselves with credit and now have the opportunity to take good A Level subjects and position themselves for top universities.”
