Redland High meets The Apprentice
Redland High's AS Economics and Business Studies students recently attended a revision conference in the awe-inspiring Wills Memorial Building. A number of interesting speakers were present however they were particularly thrilled to meet James from the BBC programme 'The Apprentice.'
James' talk was relevant to many aspects of life and not just 'A' Level studies. He spoke of the importance of perseverance and being resilient relating this to his own life. James spoke of his disappointment when he didn't achieve the grades for entry to the university of his choice and his delight to be accepted as a candidate on the Apprentice.
He supported his lesson on the merits of perserverance very strongly with other famous examples. Marconi, who invented the radiotelegraph system, was put in a mental hospital by his family; people thought that Alexander Bell was mad when he said that he could see the day when there would be a telephone in every US city. The Murray brothers who invented air flight had to deal with neighbours who complained that the noise they made frightened their chickens!!
In recent times it took James Dyson 5127 prototypes until he got his suction cleaner just right!
None of these people gave up when the going got tough - what a great lesson for life!
James' talk was just one aspect of a busy but informative day which the students thoroughly enjoyed.
