RHS and QEH Safe Surfing Together!

Parents from Redland High and QEH met recently for a joint pastoral information evening about ways in which parents and teachers can help young people to use the internet safely. The workshop was held in the QEH theatre and was run by four members of the Redland Community Police team who gave an excellent presentation using some of the purpose made CEOP (Child Exploitation and On-line Protection) video materials.

Everyone was impressed by the quality and impact of the videos, some of which are aimed at young people and some at parents. Many of these materials are used at Redland High during PSHE and ICT lessons, but they are available to be seen at home via www.ceop.gov.uk or www.youtube.com/user/ceops

Before the evening many parents felt daunted by the fast pace of technological change and their own ability to keep up with it. It was reassuring, however, to meet together and find so many areas of common concern.

The Community Police team were clear and helpful about being able to use the websites above for up-to-date support on this important issue. Everyone was pleased to find that, as an adult group, we didn‟t do too badly on the CEOP 'Think You Know' quiz!

Redland High and QEH are now looking forward to our next joint venture - a disco at Redland High for the boys and girls of Years 8 and 9 - we anticipate a great evening but an awful lot more noise!
