Gulliver's Travels

As part of their Personal, Social and Emotional Development the girls in Lower Foundation have the opportunity to take Gulliver, the class Teddy Bear, home for the weekend or on holiday.

Gulliver travels with his overnight bag which the girls enjoy packing to make sure he has all he needs for his mini breaks:-

· A change of clothes & pyjamas (kindly donated by Pippi Gray, a former pupil)

· A digital camera, (given as a special treat by Roisin Simon and her family)

· His very own passport (donated by Tegan Iles and her family)

· Toiletries & wash bag (replenished by in-flight gift & goodies)

· A diary for the girls to record Gulliver's adventures with them

The girls are made to feel very special when Gulliver chooses to go home with them for the weekend. When they bring him back to school they talk in front of the class about the fun they have had. This really helps to build the girls confidence to speak in front of their peers.

Gulliver gets to go to everyone's birthday parties and takes a special card with him to give to the "birthday” girl who is looking after him. Girls going away on holiday are able to book Gulliver in advance. He is well travelled and has visited such places as Ireland, Disneyland Paris & Florida, Greece, Spain, Egypt, France, Belgium and Portugal. His latest trip was to spend the Christmas holidays with Ella and her family on their travels to the Czech Republic.

Some girls, with help from their family, make beautiful journals which they bring back to share with the class. Included are photographs of parts of the world that everyone can look at and learn from, giving a fresh dimension to their Knowledge and Understanding of the World, as well as exposing them to the benefits and uses of Information, Communication, Technology. These travels are also flagged up on the map of the world displayed on Gulliver's Travel board, in the Lower Foundation Classroom, for all to see.

Really, every aspect of the children's learning is enhanced by just one small, but much loved, Bear!
