Zoë Spencer-Small (Year 13) who completed the Dodentocht or Death March. This is a 100km marching walk (although some do run it!) which has to be completed within 24 hours (a tough achievement, hence the name). It is an annual event which was celebrating its 40th anniversary this year and which attracted almost 10,800 hikers, aged 16-80 from all over Europe. The route starts and ends in Bornem, Belgium and runs through the provinces of Antwerp, East Flanders and Flemish Brabant.
This was Zoë's second year and was particularly hard as temperatures topped 32 degrees in the middle of the day and did not drop below the low 20s even at night. This was reflected in the numbers who did not complete the course (41%). Zoe was particularly pleased not to have a single blister at the end of the march although she did have to be treated for dehydration at 66kms and for a bad nose bleed 3kms from the end. Despite these setbacks, she still made it with an hour to spare, finishing in exactly 23 hours.

She was also awarded a total of 8 trophies including 'The Fishponds Rotary Trophy' for the Highest Mark in the Dance Section for her Modern solo dance.

Briony Blenman (Year 6) who was awarded a Certificate of Achievement by the Bristol Hippodrome as a member of the Choir for Bill Kenwright's performance of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Well done Briony. Read about Briony's experience here:
"The first performance I did of Joseph at the Bristol Hippodrome was on the 13 January and ended on the 18 January. I did eight performances and they all turned out great. There were two teams and we split the performances up so that we didn't have to do as many. I was in the Blue team and there were about 50 of us singing in each choir. We didn't just sing, we had to learn a lot of hand jives and dance moves. We didn't get paid but we got the whole cast's autographs and they let us keep the t-shirt that we wore and a programme and it was about the experience. We had to wear blue denim jeans, jazz shoes and a Joseph t-shirt. It was a really good experience and it was really fun".
Seonaid Dick (Year 10) who did very well in swimming this season - winning 2 medals at the Bristol Henleaze Swimming Club championships - a bronze for 100m breast stroke - in 1.36.21 and a silver for 50m breast stroke in 42.81 seconds.

The rigorous training ensured Helena could control the aircraft safely during normal flight, when thermalling close to other gliders, and in some aerobatic manoeuvres. She also had to demonstrate that she can deal with 'eventualities' including regaining control of the aircraft when it is spinning out of the sky, and choosing how to land safely when the tow cable breaks during takeoff.
Thanks to the efforts of the instructors at Cotswold Gliding Club, the training also satisfied the Duke of Edinburgh Award's skills section's requirements. At the end of the season, Helena had so impressed the club that they awarded her the Akehurst Cup for best junior pilot.
Next year she wants to learn cross-country flying skills including navigation across England and Wales, how to safely 'land out' in fields, and how to drive a car.
