Redland High win South West Engineering Competition
One of three Redland High teams have won the South West competition run by the Engineering Development Trust Go4SET which is designed to stimulate the interest of young people in Science and Engineering. This was the third win for the School since the competition began five years ago.
Magical Mathematics with Plymouth University
Year 10s Isabella Bentley, Zoe Harrill-Davis, Anastasia Laurie and Grace Sodzi were introduced recently to new aspects of Pure and Applied Mathematics. The programme was being delivered by Ted Graham from the University of Plymouth.

UK Mathematics Trust arranges a series of individual challenges for secondary schools. Redland High girls in years 9 to 13 have performed so highly that they have been invited to follow up competitions.
The Sound of Music for Redland High will continue into 2012
Redland High's fantastic production of the Sound of Music has been followed by end of term performances in front of parents, friends and over 1,400 members of the public but great news of a London performance in 2012 was the icing on the cake!
Redland High Choir helps boost Lord Mayor's Appeal
The glorious sound of the Redland High Choir with the Bristol Male Voice Choir and Euphoria Show Choir raised the roof of the Colston Hall at the annual Bristol Evening Post Christmas Carol Concert.

German Debate against Badminton School
Congratulations and well done to Madeleine Tickell, Vaishali Raval and Madeleine Taylor-Laidler who won their debate in German against Badminton School. They proposed the motion that 'das deutsche Schulwesen ist besser als das englische'
Willow House Charity Day
Willow House charity day saw the school turn pink and purple in aid of Plan-UK's 'Because I am a Girl' campaign. Plan-UK are supporting a girl's right to education in third world countries. There were pink and purple balloons, clothes, cakes, sticker and hair and some very enthusiastic wet sponge throwing at lunchtime organized by Year 8.

Brizzley Bear Tops the Bear Theme!
When Mrs Nash set the theme of Bears for her Lower Foundation class (3-4 year olds), including the Goldilocks story, little did she know that Brizzley Bear, the mascot for the Bristol Rugby Team would be visiting. Foundation girls are sure of a ‘big surprise’ when Brizzley arrived as he is so much bigger than their usual toy bears – Daddy bear indeed!
A fond farewell
The Junior School girls and staff said a fond farewell to Mrs Jane Butterworth, Director of Marketing and Development, during a whole school assembly. Mrs Butterworth enjoyed the assembly devoted to moving on and journeys to celebrate her retirement.
Nkomazi Library
Today Mr Eyles, Redland High Junior School Headteacher, presented Mrs Anna Young and Ms Jayne Morris-Thurgood, founders of the Nkomazi Library appeal, with a cheque for £1349.11.
New digital resources for the Pond Club
Pond Club still retains its position as one of the most popular and long standing clubs and its activities change through the seasons.
Judo at Redland High
Judo is thriving at Redland High with pupils from Years 2 to 6 having coaching with Finn Gleeson.
Activities abound in the Junior School
Girls are given the fantastic opportunity to pursue their strengths in problem solving, open ended investigations, creative writing and puzzles in a weekly club called Pandora.
Juniors cooking it up!
Years 1 and 2 have been enjoying themselves during the Autumn term in cookery club, learning how to make a variety of cakes and biscuits including Mars Bar Rice Krispie Squares (naughty but nice!) and traditional Fairy Cakes but they were not expecting to be baking bread!
Ukulele update
Ukuleles were kindly donated to the Junior School by the Friends of Redland High last year. They have a class set of ukuleles and follow a beginners musical course during Years 3 and 4
Ballet in the Junior School
For the last nine years Redland High Junior School has provided the opportunity for its pupils to study ballet under the eye of ex Royal Ballet School teacher, Deborah Sims. The young dancers are able to take examinations which are administered by the Royal Academy of Dance and this term has seen two groups entered, one at Primary level and the other for Grade 1.
Redland High Junior School Entertains
The residents of Westbury Fields, part of the St Monica Trust, were entertained by a group of 20 KS2 pupils who sang a medley of carols.

The Gabblers
The Bristol Gabblers’ Club season began at The Bristol Hotel. Redland High Gabbler, Hettie Feiler was last to speak but her nerves did not get the better of her and her speech 'A Little Night Music' was superbly delivered.
Sixth Form Mathematics Competition
Redland High's Senior Mathematics Team finished narrowly behind QEH and Badminton but ahead of BGS and Clifton College in the Regional Final of the UK Senior Mathematics Team Challenge at UWE.
Highest Science Award for Caitlin
Year 13 Caitlin Tickell has been awarded a Gold Crest Award, the highest award in a national scheme run by the British Association for Science for research carried out with the University of Bristol Chemistry Department.
Redland High Leads Bristol Day Schools
Redland High are delighted to report that the Sixth Form students 'Class of 2011' featured at the top of the league tables for independent day schools in Bristol for A Level results according to The Times and Telegraph newspapers.
Redland High 100% Pass Rate Again!
55 candidates sat A2 level examinations this year. They achieved a laudable number of A* results with 23% at the top grade. Combined A*/A results totalled more than 63% of all the grades (63.35%) and over 80% achieved A*-B grades (80.12%) which is a fantastic result. 4 students gained 3 A* grades each. The Redland High pass rate was, once again, 100%.
Lessons from History
As part of the Lessons from Auschwitz project, two Year 12 students, Luna Li and Kelly Mather, travelled to Poland recently to visit the Auschwitz/Birkenau Memorial and Museum. The day proved to be long and gruelling but they were rewarded with a greater knowledge of this place which holds such an infamous position in modern world history.
National Success for ‘Banter'
Redland High students have been contributing to and editing the Evening Post's monthly supplement for young people, ‘Banter', since the beginning of last year, so we were very pleased to receive news that it had achieved an award from the Society of Editors in London.
Rotary Club Talk
At the end of last term, sixth formers Caitlin Tickell and Luna Li were invited to a formal lunch at Clifton Rotary Club, where they gave a presentation about the conference they are attending in America in June - the Rotary Youth World Affairs Seminar.
Sixth Form Successes!
We are delighted to report that Safa Cheema and Caitlin Tickell, both in Year 12, have been awarded Nuffield Science Bursaries and Emily Lindsey Bloom, Year 13, has achieved a silver award in the Chemistry Olympiad run by the Royal Society of Chemistry.
