RHOK - Senior and Junior Orienteering Club
Last Sunday saw another cold winter's day but no sign of the heavy rain and winds that had been forecast earlier in the week. Westonbirt Arboretum proved an excellent venue for a schools' event, with parking and registration close to both the start and finish area. Better still, we had a warm café at hand for drinks and snacks!
World Book Day Quiz
The recent World Book Day saw Redland High's English Department holding a literary quiz to celebrate the occasion. Girls from Years 7 to 10 were given 15 questions on well-known children's literature to answer.
Maths Challenge Success and Olympiad Invite!
Redland High took part in the Intermediate Maths Challenge recently and 21 students have been awarded certificates: 4 Gold, 3 Silver and 14 Bronze.
Reaching High in Water and on Solid Ground!
Redland High's Sportswomen were recently celebrating winning the coveted 4 x 50m swimming Medley at the Bristol Secondary Schools' Gala and by maintaining an unbeaten run for the U16 Netball Team as they won against Badminton.
RHOKs (Senior School Orienteering Club)
The cold weather did not deter over 300 runners from entering the latest schools' event at Lyncombe Hill, and amoung these competitors were runners representing Redland High Senior School.
High Praise from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama
Redland High musicians recently went to the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama (RWCMD), accompanied by Mr Daykin, our new Director of Music, to take part in a 'Teaching Skills' lecture for undergraduate Music students.

The annual pancake race was as usual a laughter-filled loud event with a definite competitive edge!
Haiti Earthquake Appeal
Redland High have been raising money for the Haiti Earthquake Appeal with a number of events being greatly supported by the staff and students.
Classics modernised!
The Classics section of the Library has just had a makeover! In addition to all the essential Greek and Roman literature, language, architecture, and culture texts, there is now a special fiction collection. But it is not just for girls studying Latin or Classical Civilisation.
Redland High Climbing Success!
During a recent climbing competition Isabella Bentley completed both of the top-roped routes, getting her into a head-to-head final for first place! Isabella was also the only girl to enter the lead climbing competition and she did extremely well!

Amanda Mitchison visits to start Book Week activities
All the girls from Lower Foundation to Year 6 were involved in some way in celebrating Book Week/World Book Day. The girls thoroughly enjoyed all the activities and their visit from the author Amanda Mitchison (pictured).
Juniors 'Sing Up' with a Smile
The Junior School girls, including the Choir, sang beautifully recently for ‘National Sing Up Day' -organised by a government group aiming to provide different initiatives for singing in school.
Barnardos Egg-citing Challenge!
Mr Robin Turner came to a Junior School Assembly recently to talk about the work of Barnardo's and to explain an Egg-citing fundraising challenge that Redland High are taking part in.
Junior Orienteering Club Marching On!
The Year 6 girls made an almost seamless transition at Lyncombe Hill recently to the more advanced yellow course with five running alone. Phoebe Budd-Stone won the Year 6 girls' race again and extended her lead in that class.
Life Education Mobile Classroom
The Junior School recently visited the Life Education Mobile Classroom. According to age, the girls took part in workshops related to personal safety, drug education, keeping their bodies healthy, and making wise choices and decisions.
Year 5 are Animating!
Year 5 recently took part in workshops animating Aesop's fables.
Drumming the Djembe Drums!
As part of their topic work on Africa, Year 4 recently took part in an African drumming workshop.
Gulliver's Travels
As part of their Personal, Social and Emotional Development the girls in Lower Foundation have the opportunity to take Gulliver, the class Teddy Bear, home for the weekend or on holiday.
A Day in a Victorian Ragged School
Year 6 were recently set the task of writing about a day in school imagining they were living in Victorian times. This was part of their 'Victorians' topic.
Raising funds for Haiti
Thank you very much Katie Knapp and Emily and Lucy Griffin for all your hard work in organizing and running the biscuit and cake sale in aid of the Haiti Earthquake Appeal fund. A marvellous £700 was raised.

Parliamentary Candidate visits Redland High
Visits by parliamentary candidates and MPs are arranged for Year 11, 12 and 13 pupils studying Government and Politics, and Paul Smith, the Labour Party candidate for Bristol West, recently gave a lunchtime talk.
Extended Project Qualification
Three Year 13 pupils, Sophie Copley-Moorby, Julia Loveless and Lucy Walters, undertaking the Extended Project Qualification recently presented their research to staff, governors, parents, students and friends.
Double Success for Sixth Form Geographers!
Tuesday 2 March saw 3 teams from Redland High compete in the annual Sixth Form Decision Making Competition organised by the Geographical Association, with 13 teams competing from 8 different Bristol schools. And the Redland High teams took first and second place!
Gabblers' Dinner
Alessandra Giusti once again represented Redland High admirably at the Gabblers‟ Dinner recently. Her speech was entitled 'Flying High' and was intelligent, expressive, and very funny.
John James 'Tools of the Trade' award winners announced
The 'Tools of the Trade Awards' this year has been divided between two Year 13 girls, Sophie Dun and Lucinda Melichar.

Redland High's Wildlife Photography Competition produced some amazing entries and choosing a winner was a very difficult task!
Spellbound?
The final of the Redland High Year 10 House Debate took place recently. The debate was won by Chestnut House who convinced The Floor that 'spelling didn't matter'.
A Hive of Activity
The Senior School recently reverberated to Rowan House's Charity Day. The girls had already decided to support the charity ‘Save the Bees', but after the Haiti earthquake, decided to split the money raised between the two causes.
Was Elizabeth a Manipulator or Manipulated?
A group of Sixth Form historians recently travelled to Bath to hear a lecture entitled 'Elizabeth I and the Historians' delivered by the prominent Tudor historian and Bristol academic Professor Ron Hutton.
Redland High Artwork Exhibited at Bristol Cathedral
Redland High's reputation as an excellent School for Artists to develop and excel will once again be supported by the pieces of work available to view at Bristol Cathedral from Friday 12 February until Tuesday 2 March.
