As part of the Lessons from Auschwitz project, two Year 12 students, Luna Li and Kelly Mather, travelled to Poland recently to visit the Auschwitz/Birkenau Memorial and Museum. The day proved to be long and gruelling but they were rewarded with a greater knowledge of this place which holds such an infamous position in modern world history.
Both girls were incredibly moved by the experience. Kelly stated that for her it was the piles of hair shorn from victims on arrival which really struck her as a symbol of all that was lost. Luna saw the trip as life affirming and believes that learning from the mistakes of the past could help the next generation to build a better world.
Year 9 pupils are currently studying life in Nazi Germany and Luna and Kelly will take part in these lessons recounting their experiences.
