Edinburgh Fundraiser - a thank you
Published: 02 Jun 2012 updated: 24 Jul 2012
Many thanks to all those who attended the Fringe Benefit event on July 6. There were a wide range of performances from both Staff and students and including some new visitors to Redland High. Acts encompassed folk, pop and rock music, music theatre, morris dancing, belly dancing and pastiche.
Departing members of Staff Mrs McMahon and Mrs Sharman both gave wonderful swan songs, Mr Sloan performed a specially composed folk dance, Mrs Owens-Powell and Mrs Rodliffe delighted the audience with a sung tribute to Mr Icke, Ms Douglas opened the show with an impressive display of belly dancing and Miss Rowlands rushed back from an appointment in Shropshire earlier in the evening, to close the event with a specially requested rendition of 'Bill' from the musical 'Carousel'.
Student performers included Molly Cheesley, Alice Bird and Frannie Millar (Year 9) who - amongst other things - sang a song of farewell and tribute to Mrs McMahon. Jasmine Griffiths and Amy Kennedy danced, and Hettie Feiler (Year 12) stole the hearts of the audience playing a piece composed for her father: 'The coolest papa on the block'. The final student performer of the evening was Polly Wardrop whose guitar playing was so impressive that she's subsequently found her musicianship coming to much greater prominence in Romeo and Juliet than had originally been planned!
Thanks are also due to June Walker and Jane Anstee who provided the refreshments for the evening and organised the raffle. Altogether, the event was such a success and so greatly appreciated by performers and audience alike, that there has been some enthusiastic talk of making it an annual event!
